The Academic High Altitude Conference began in 2009 at Taylor University. It then moved to other universities before settling at Iowa State University where the conference is now held every year. Originally, the conference was run by the organizing university. In 2014 the SBA began taking over the conference and the conference is now organized and run by the SBA in collaboration with Iowa State University and the Iowa Space Grant Consortium.
